NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says the league should be the network for football, not the league.
The NFL says it has about $1 billion in cash and stock in the company called Comcast.
The NFL is an owner of NBCUniversal, which owns the NFL, NBA, and MLB, and the NFL is in the process of selling NBCUniversal to Comcast.
But the league has been unable to agree to terms with Comcast.
“The NFL has been in the business for decades, and I know that the NFL and its teams have worked closely with Comcast to develop, implement and operate our Network Systems,” Goodell said in a statement.
“We want to be the one to make this happen.”
The league has long argued that it should be responsible for managing the network infrastructure for its players and the teams.
Goodell said last month that he thinks the NFL should “make the decision” on how much of the network is for NFL teams and how much is for fans.
The league and the owners have been at odds about whether the teams should pay for the network.
The union representing the players and other teams also wants the league to take control of the networks.
“As you know, the players, who are the largest consumers of the NFL Network, are extremely concerned about how they will be affected by the proposed merger,” NFL Players Association President DeMaurice Smith said in an interview with The Associated Press.
“They are very concerned about the effect that the proposed acquisition of NBC will have on the NFL.
The players have expressed concerns about a possible loss of ownership and ability to control their own destiny.”
This is a public company and we want the public to be aware of that fact.
